Question: It's been a long time since I've used bedmas. I'm still confused as to what the answer to this question would be.
30 - (2 x 9) + (15/3)=

I would do the brackets first
(2x9)=18 and (15/3)=5

30-(18)+(5)
Then I would add 18+5=23
Then I would subtract 23 from 30
30-23=7
So my answer would be 7?

My friend says the answer would be 17.
Because
30-(18)+(5)
30-18=12
12+5=17

Who is right?
Thank you.

Andie,

Your friend has the correct answer. Since you are thinking in terms of bedmAS when you get to

30 - 18 + 5

if you add first (30 + 5 = 35) and then subtract (35 - 18) you get 17.
