An example of two consecutive even integers is 16 and 18. Their sum is 34 which is twice 17.
Let's look at the question this way: how many different ways can two numbers add up to 450? Answer: quite a lot! But if the two numbers were really close (as two consecutive even integers are), then wouldn't they be very close to half of 450?
