Question: I have area of 160 sq ft. I want to put mulch in the area 2 inches thick. The bag of mulch comes with 2 cu ft of mulch per bag. How many bags will it take to cover the area?

If you wanted to have your mulch 1 foot thick then the volume would be

160 1 = 160 cubic feet

But that is 6 times thicker than you want so you need a volume of

 160/6 = 26.67 cubic feet.

Since a bag holds 2 cubic feet you need 14 bags.
