A hat contains between 10 and 25 marbles. Some marbles are green, and the rest are yellow. Without looking you are to reach into the hat and pull out a marble. The probability of pulling out a green marble is 2/9. How many marbles are in the hat and explain?

Hi Kerry.

If the probability of pulling out a green marble is 2 out of 9, that means that for every 9 marbles in the hat, exactly 2 of them are green. The probability of pulling out a green marble is

(the number of green marbles)/(the total number of marbles).

so if there are 2 green marbles and a total of 9 marbles then the probability of pulling out a green marble is 2/9. But this isn't the correct answer since 9 is not between 10 and 25. What is another fraction that simplifies o 2/9? Is its denominator between 10 and 25?

Hope this helps!
