Find the speed in m/s of a point on a bicycle rim of diameter 88cm making 200 revolutions per minute.

Hi Sonu,

The diameter of the wheel is 88 cm so the circumference is

pi d = pi x 88 = 276 cm which is 2.76 meters.

Thus in each revolution of the wheel the point travels 2.76 meters. The wheel makes 200 revolutions in a minute and there are 60 seconds in a minute so the wheel makes 200/60  revolutions in one second.

What is the speed of the point in meters per second?
