1. There are two properties of the logarithm functions that are important in many problems that involve these functions. They are
    
   log(ab) = log(a) + log(b)
   log(a^b) = b log(a)
    
   Write 8 as 2³ and use the second of these properties.
    
   
2. If 2 sin x = cos x then 2 tan x = 1 or tan x = 1/2. Plot the graph of tan x for 0^o < x < 90^o.
