Hi there,

Net x 0.175= Gross

eg

gross=158.6 net=134.98 vat=23.62

134.98x0.175=23.62

23.62+134.98=158.60

So to clarify... I have my gross but want to find out the net so I know how much the VAT is??

PLEASE help?

I have my gross £££ and I know Vat is 17.5% how do I learn vat

so netxvat=gross what is ??/vat=net

thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

Your calculatiion is correct but your first line "Net x 0.175= Gross" is incorrect. In your calculation you first multiplied the net times 0.175 to get the vat, not the gross. Then you added the net to the vat to get the gross. That is

net + net x 0.175 = gross

You can rewrite this as

net x 1.175 = gross

and hence

net = gross/1.175
