Subject: integral solutions

Hello : I'm stuck with this problem . I wonder if anyone can help me on it ... thanks

determine all pairs of integers (x,y) which satisfy the equation

6x2 - 3xy - 13x + 5y = -11

I got

y= (6x2-13x+11)/(3x-5)

and i don't konw how to continue

thank you very much

david

Hi David,

Very well up to there. You can split it up further by dividing 6x2-13x+11 by 3x-5 to get:

y = 2x - 1 + 6/(3x-5)

Now, all you need to do is decide which integer values of x will make y an integer.

Claude
