Logs for the fire

Question:
Three girls named Amanda, Beatrice, and Cleo visit a summer cottage. Amanda brings 5 logs for the fire, Beatrice brings 3 logs and Cleo contributes 80 cents. How should the money be divided among the other two girls so that each of the three is felt to have contributed equally to the cost of the fire.

I am not sure how to approach this question, yet I have been told that the answer is not 50 cents to Amanda and 30 cents to Beatrice.

Hi Tom,

They have a total of 8 logs, 5 brought by Amanda and 3 by Beatrice. Hence Amanda should get five-eighths of the money and Beatrice should get three-eighths.
