Question:
How do you simplify the following using the distributive law :

5 squareroot 2+3 squareroot 2?

Hi Carissa,

If you have 5 "things" and you add 3 "things" you get 8 "things" as long as the "things" are the same in both places. In your problem the "things" are both SquareRoot(2) thus

5 SquareRoot(2) + 3 SquareRoot(2) = 8 SquareRoot(2)

Penny
