y= (3x+2)/(4x-5)
solve for x

Hi Courtney,

Notice that x cannot be 5/4 or the denominator is zero. I would first multiply both sides by 4x-5 (which is not zero) to get

(4x - 5)y = 3x + 2 hence

4xy - 5y = 3x + 2. Collect the terms with an x on the left side of the equation.

4xy - 3x = 2 + 5y or

(4y - 3)x = 5y + 2 Finally if y is not 3/4 (that is if 4y - 3 is not zero), then you can divide by 4y - 3 to get

x = (5y + 2)/(4y - 3)

Cheers,
Penny
