If the sum of the two numbers is 5 and the difference is 11 then one of the numbers must be positive and the other negative. Suppose that you knew the two numbers, one positive and the other negative, and you removed the negative sign from the negative number. Then you would have two positive numbers. These two numbers would have sum 11 and difference 5. Can you find these two numbers, that is
