It takes a lot of centimeters to make a kilometer. The width of your little finger as approximately a centimeter and a kilometer is approximately 9 times the length of a football field. In fact it takes 100 centimeters to make a meter (centi means 100 as in, there are 100 cents in a dollar). Also there are 1000 meters in a kilometer. Hence to get from kilometers to centimeters you need to multiply by 100  1000 = 100 000.
