How many litres of water are in a pool that is 16 feet in diameter and 35 inches deep?

Hi,

The two facts you need to know about the measurement units are that there are 2.54 centimeters in an inch and that there arre 1000 cubic centimeters in a litre.

Since you menton the diameter of the pool I am going to assume that it is circular. The volume then is

pi r2 h

where r is the radius, h is the depth and pi is 3.1416.

First express the radius and depth in centimeters. The depth is 35 inches which is 35 2.54 centimeters and the radius is 8 12 2.54 centimeters. Thus the volume is

pi (8 12 2.54)2 (35 2.54) = 16 605 866 cubic centimeters

which is

16 606 litres.

Cheers,
Penny
