2000 x 0.35 = 700 + 2000 = 2700
How do start from 2700 and get 35% back out? If I have 2700, how do I figure out that 35% of 2000 is 700 and adding the two them together will get me 2700?

Hi Dennis,

I think one of the problems is that you have a "gramatical error" in the line

2000 x 0.35 = 700 + 2000 = 2700 2000 x 0.35 is 700, it's not 700 + 2000. The correct statement is 2000 x 0.35 + 2000 = 2700 that is 2000 x 0.35 = 2700 - 2000

Hence if you know that you started with 2000 and increased to 2700 then

2000 x r = 2700 - 2000 where r is the number you are looking for. Thus 2000 x r = 700 and hence r = 700/2000 = 0.35
