Quandaries and Queries

Hi my name is Ginger, and I'm a student in grade 9.

I've been working with finding the nth term for a few weeks, and i can't seem to figure this one out!

1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.

PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Ginger,

You seem to be dealing with the sequence of powers of 2.

1st term: 2 0 = 1
2nd term: 2 1 = 2
3rd term: 2 2 = 4
.
.
.
nth term: ???????

What relationship can you see between the exponent and the number of the term? i.e. when the number of the term is 1 (first term) the exponent is 0, when the number of the term is 2, the exponent is 1. . . etc.

This should help you find the form for the nth term.

Cheers,

Leeanne
