(93+n)+158=93+(28+158)

Hi,

No instructions were given but I am assuming you are to solve for n.

I would first simplify each side of the equation separately. The right side is

93 + (28 + 158) Starting from inside the parentheses and working out gives
   93 + (28 + 158)
= 93 + (186)
= 279

The left side is

which simplifies to    (93 + n) + 158
= (n + 93) + 158
= n + 93 + 158
= n + 251

Thus the original equation can be rewritten

n + 251 = 279

I see this last statement as a question, "What do you have to add to 251 to get 279?" The answer is 28 so n = 28.

Cheers,
Penny
