What is the sum of the first 1000 even integers?
 

 

Hi Jill,

Write two copies of the desired series, the second copy in reverse order:

2 + 4 + 6 + ...... +1996 + 1998 + 2000
2000 + 1998 + 1996 + ...... + 6 + 4 + 2

Now, find the sum of both series together, by adding each column:
