Question:
What is the formula for converting cubic feet to pounds? (with any substance)

Hi,

A cubic foot iron weighs more than a cubic foot of water. That is why iron sinks if you put it in water. If you have a piece of iron and you know its volume in cubic feet then, to find its weight in pounds you need to know how much one cubic foot or iron weighs. This is called the density of iron.

The density of iron is 492 pounds per cubic foot, that is one cubic foot of iron weighs 492 pounds. The density of water is 62.4 pounds per cubic foot.

Cheers,

Penny
