My seventh grader problem of the month

0__________1______________5____>

This is a arrow, the number should be below

A.Mrs Decker created an arrow representing a number line shown above. She wanted to find points and label them with a heart (G) for Valentine's Day so that the fraction 5/g is less than 1. (be sure to mark the G and not the fraction 5/g). She pondered, "Are there any other locations for G?" Is so help her description the location of all these points. If not why not?

B. On the positive portion of the number line above, she wants to find a point for her heart/s and label it H so that the fraction 5/h is greater than one. Are there any other locations for h? Is so describe the location of these points. If not why not?

c. On the positive portion of the number line, hel her find point/s and label it U so that the fraction 5/u is equal to 1. Are ther any other locations for U? If so describe the location of these points. If not why not?

Hi Shery,

I can help you get started. If a fraction  n/d is less than one then the denominator d must be greater than the numerator n. Thus if  5/G is less than 1 then G must be greater than 5. Hence on the diagram that you have

G can be anywhere to the right of 5. For example

I hope this helps,
Penny
