| How do I work out the volume and weight of water in a fish tank that is 36in x 14in x 12in? Bill Thank you Hi Bill, The volume of the tank is calculated by multiplying the three dimensions, that is 14 12 = 6048 cubic inches. You haven't said what units you want to use for weight, but since your measurements are in inches I am going to assume that you want the weight in pounds. The density of water is 62.4 pounds per cubic foot. a cubic foot is 12 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches, hence 12 12 = 1728 cubic inches. 3.5 = 218.4 pounds.
