The slab of water would then be 48 inches by 14 inches by 2 inches. I prrefer to work in feet so this is  ⁴⁸/₁₂ feet by  ¹⁴/₁₂ feet by  ²/₁₂ feet or

 ⁴⁸/₁₂  ¹⁴/₁₂  ²/₁₂ = 0.778 cubic feet

One cubic foot is 7.48 US gallons so 0.778 cubic feet is 0.778 7.48 = 5.82 US gallons
