Hello my name is Danny, I am studing for my contractors exam. I am haveing truble with a few questions. I have the answer to the problems but I dont know how to get them my self.  please help

How many cu. Yds. Of concrete are in a wall that is 150' long and 8'4" high and 8' thick

Hi Danny,

I think you mean 8 inches thick rather than 8 feet thick.

I would first change all the dimensions to yards.

  1. There are 3 feet in a yard so 150' is 150/3 = 50 yards.
  2. There are 12 inches in a foot so 4" is 4/12 = 0.333 feet.Thus 8'4" is 8.333 feet which is 8.333/3 = 2.778 yards.
  3. 8" = 8/12 =0.667 feet which is 0.667/3 =0.222 yards.

Thus your wall is 50 yards by 2.778 yards by 0.222 yards. Hence the volume is

50 2.778 0.222 = 30.8 cubic yards.

Cheers,
Penny
