I am helping my son with his converting rational
numbers in the form of A/B where A and B are integers and
B not equal to zero

I think I am doing this right but I am not sure so
below are the problems and our answers are beside
them, please let me know if these answerers are correct

2. 0.18 = 9/50

4. 9 = 9/1

6. 0 = 0/1

8. -3 1/3 = -9/1

10. -2.3 = -2 3/10 = - 23/1

Are our answerers correct

Hi Joe,

Questions 2, 4 and 6 are correct.

In question 8 the number you have is negative three and a third. Ignore the negative sign for the moment and concentrate on three and a third.

I want to think about three and a third pizzas. I first cut each of the three whole pizzas into thirds. Thus I have

3 thirds and 3 thirds and 3 thirds and 1 third or 10 thirds of a pizza.

Thus

1/310/3

Using mathematical symbols rather than pizzas what I have done is

1/3 = 3 + 1/39/31/310/3

Finally, keeping the negative sign

-3 1/3 = -(3 + 1/3) = - ( 9/31/3) = -10/3

Can you do problem 10 now? this time you work in tenths rather than thirds.
