Hi

I am doing some emotion response mapping.
Being a composer I know how to push the heart beat tempo by a % increase of BPM in my music. I want to know how to calculate an increase in intensity of sound. Now I have 60 decibels. I want an increase of intensity by a factor π % with out going over 156 decibels.

I am David in the UK.

Hi David,

156/60 = 2.6 so 156 = 2.6  60. In other words 156 is 260% of 60. Hence you can increase the intensity by a factor between 0% and 160%. For example to increase the intensity by a factor of 80% you increase it to

60 to 80% of 60 which is
60 + 0.80 60 = 60 (1.80) = 108 decibels.

I hope this helps,
Penny
