The equation C=10 +2n represents the cost in dollars, C, for n painter's caps advertising the walkathon. Which pair of values could represent a number of caps and the cost for that number of caps, (n, C)?

(0, 10) (7, 24) (15, 30)

Hi Duk,

The expression C = 10 + 2n tells you the cost (C) for n painters caps. For example if you purchase 5 caps (n = 5) it will cost you

C = 10 + 2 5 = 10 + 10 = $20

Thus (5,20) is a pair of values that tell you a number of caps and cost. Likewise for 25 caps the cost will be

C = 10 + 2 25 = 10 + 50 = $60

and hence (25, 60) is a pair that tell you a number of caps and cost.

Now look at the pairs of numbers you are given, (0, 10) (7, 24) and (15, 30). Which of these is a pair that tell you a number of caps and cost?
