I don’t know what level question this is:

I need to order sand for playgrounds. I have their square footage and the various depths of sand needed for each, but sand comes in tons.

What is the formula for converting square footage and depth to tons (for example: 6 inches of sand needed for a 200sq ft area = how many tons?)

Hi Jody,

There is a web site in the UK that give the density of materials so I thought I would look there to see how much a cubic foot of sand weighs. What I found was seven different numbers, for example for wet sand, for dry sand, for wet packed sand, for quartz sand,... I think you need to talk to the company that is quoting the price in tons and ask them your question.

Sorry I can't help,
Penny
