Hi Naina,
Percentages seem to be almost everywhere. A shopkeeper sold $200 worth of a particular item last month and $250 this month. That's a 25% increase in his sales. Last month you got 83% in your math exam. The class average was 72%. In North America, in almost every state or province there is a sales tax on what you buy. Where I live there is a a 7% Provincial Sales Tax (PST) and a 7% Goods and Services Tax (GST) which is put on by the national government. In many places in Europe there is a Value Added Tax (VAT) which is also a percentage of the value of the item. The latest poll that I saw gave the Liberal Party 39% of the decided vote, the Conservative Party 29%, The New Democratic Party 15%, the Block 12% and the Green Party 5%.
