I have a room that is 12 x 16 feet with an 8 foot diameter hole (spa) in it. How many square feet are in this room?

The area of the room before the hole is cut for the spa is 12 
16 = 192 square feet.
The area of a circle is 
times the diameter where is approximately 3.14. This the area of the hole you remove for the spa is
Hence the area remaining is
192 - 25.13 square feet or approximately 167 square feet.
