the measure of the 2nd angle in a triangle is 4 more than the measure of the 1st angle. the measure of the 3rd angle is eight more than twice the measure of the 1st angle. find the measure of each angle.

Hi,

I would let F be the measure of the first angle, S be the measure of the second angle and T be the measure of the third angle. Now look at the two statements you have.

the measure of the 2nd angle in a triangle is 4 more than the measure of the 1st angle,

that is

S is 4 more than F,

which is

S = F + 4.

Now the second statement

the measure of the 3rd angle is eight more than twice the measure of the 1st angle

that is

T is eight more than twice F

which is

T = 2F + 8.

Now if you just knew an equation that relates all three, F, S and T, then you could substitute F + 4 for S, 2F + 8 for T and you would have one equation in the variable F that you can solve. What fact do you know about the three angles in a triangle?
