Question from Devon, a student:

The length of one of the equal legs of an isosceles triangle is 8 cm less than 4 times the length of the base. If the perimeter is 29 cm, find the length of one of the equal legs.

Hi Devon.

Four times the length of the base less 8 cm is 4b - 8. So the legs are b, 4b-8 and 4b-8. Add them up and you get the perimeter of 29 cm.
Can you solve for b now?
