Question from Mary:

How can I calculate the square footage of my 18 feet diameter, 4 feet deep swimming pool?

Hi Mary,

I think you want cubic footage. Volume is measured in cubic feet.

Your pool is in the shape of a circular cylinder and the volume of a circular cylinder is given by

V = π r2 h

where r is the radius and h the height. You have a radius of 18/2 = 9 feet so the volume is

V = π × 92 × 4 = 1017.9 cubic feet.
