Question from sharquea, a student:

the number of minutes in n hours

We have two esponses for you

Hi Sharquea.

I bet you know the number of minutes in one hour.

If I have 2 hours, then I have 2 times as much as this.

If I have 30 hours, then I have 30 times as much as this.

If I have half an hour, then I have 1/2 times as much as this.

If I have n hours, then....

(continue the pattern)

Hi Sharquea,

To find out the number of minutes in a certain number of hours. we multiply the number of minutes in one hour by the number of hours needed.

In your question, you don't know how many hours there are, this quantity has been represented by the variable, n.

Now let's take a look at some related questions:
- how many minutes are in 1 hour? Answer: 60 or 60*1
- how many minutes are in 2 hours? Answer: 120 or 60*2
- how many minutes are in 3 hours? Answer: 180 or 60*3
- how many minutes are in 9 hours? Answer: 540 or 60*9
etc.

So how many minutes are in n hours? Answer: 60n which means the same as 60*n

Hope this helps,
Leeanne
