Question from shelley, a teacher:

barb had 16 right answers and 5 wrong answers in the math competition. Find her score

Jason had 27 right answers and 4 wrong answers in the math competition. find his score

Shelley,

Barb answered 5 questions incorrectly and 16 questions correctly so there were 16 + 5 = 21 questions. (I am assuming that she answered all the questions.) Hence her score is 16 out of 21. You could give the proportion of the questions she answered correctly. That would be 16/21 = 0.7619. You could also report that as a percentage by multiplying by 100 to get 76.19%.

I hope this helps,
Penny
