Question from smiley, a student:

Two standards dice are rolled. Determine the probability that the difference between the two numbers on the dice is 2

how would I start this question, I am struggling with statistics, any help would be VERY VERY much appreciate
Thanks!

Hi Smiley,

Think of the dice as one red and the other white.

I would construct a table with six rows and six columns. The rows indicate the result on the red die and the columns the result on the white die. In the body of the table record the non-negative difference between the results on the two dice

  1 2 3 4 5 6
1 0 1 2 3 4 5
2 1 0
3
4
5
6

Of the 36 entries in the table, how many have a value of 2.

I hope this helps,
Penny
