Question from s, a student:

what is the answer of
3y+5/2(4y+1)+5y/2

Hi,

You didn't ask a question but I think you want to simplify this expression. Let me try a similar question.

Simplify 5x/2 + 3/2(x - 7) + 9x.

The first two terms are fractions with denominators of 2 so to add all three term I need to express the last term as a fraction with a denominator of 2. 9 = 18/2 so I can write

5x/2 + 3/2(x - 7) + 9x
= 5x/2 + 3/2(x - 7) + 18/2x
= [5x + 3(x - 7) + 18x]/2
= [5x + 3x - 21 + 18x]/2
= [26x - 21]/2

Now try your example.
