Two boxes of the cereal and our four cans of the pears were bought at grocery store, the cereal cost $2.29 per box and the pears cost 79 cent per can. Sales tax is 6% what was the total cost of the food?

Hi,

I'll find the cost of the cereal and you can find the cost of the pears.

The cereal costs $2.29 per box and you want 2 boxes so the cost is 2 × $2.29 = $4.58. The sales tax is 6% so you need to add 6% of $4.58. 6% of $4.58 is 0.06 × $4.58 = $0.27 so the total cost for the cereal, including tax is

$4.58 + $0.27 = $4.85.
