Subject: word problem
Name: Harold
Who are you: Other

the sum of one number plus four less than five times another is 26.
i use x as the variable of " one number" .

i wrote my equation as x + 5x-4 = 26

My solution for x = 5

My question is in the wording: "one number" is x, but is " 5times another number " = to 5x-4?

if so, then i am on track, if not, could you please explin why it isnt.

Thank you

Harold,

You need to take much more care in reading and writing the question. The statement you sent is different than what you sent last time but the wording is still not correct. Read my response to your previous question carefully and you will see how I assigned the variables.

Penny
