Subject: Geometric Sequences Name: Jillian Who are you: Student
I am doing an assignment for an MCR 3U class and I need help with one of the questions.
Find x so that 2x, x + 5, x - 7 are consecutive terms of a geometric sequence.
Hi Jillian.
A geometric sequence is one in which the ratio of consecutive terms is constant.
That means in your case: (x + 5 ) / 2x = (x - 7) / (x + 5)
Solve for x.
