Subject: Fact Families I am trying to help my son with a math problem dealing with fact families and fractions. The question only gives 2 numbers 1/16 + 1/12 and 5/4 - 4/5. Can you help me understand how fact families work with fractions? Thank you |
Hi Joe,
Have a look at Judi's response to Keisha's question concerning fact families. I have not seen fact families with fractions before but I expect the form is the same. For example if one of the questions gave 1/9 + 1/6 I would calculate 1/9 + 1/6 = 5/18 hence the fact family is
1/9, 1/6 and 5/18
since
1/9 + 1/6 = 5/18
1/6 + 1/9 = 5/18
5/18 - 1/9 = 1/6 and
5/18 - 1/6 = 1/9
