Subject: sqrt equation
Name: Mike
Who are you: Other

5sqrt2 - 10sqrt2 +12/3

easy enough, 5sqrt2 +3

but 2+3 or 5 meet the criteria for simplifying a sqrt???

I don't understand why 5sqrt2+3 is the correct answer over 5sqrt 5

thanks for the help in advance
Mike

Hi Mike,

I think the confusion here is between sqrt(2 + 3) and sqrt 2 + 3 = (sqrt2) + 3.
Sqrt(2 + 3) is of course sqrt5 but (sqrt2) + 3is not.

Penny
