Question is make an input - output table for the function using the domain 0,1,2,3,4,
Then state the range of the function.

Thank you.

y =x + 8 ?

y =0.4x +3 ?

Hi Richard,

I am going to use a different function, y = 2x - 5 and a different domain, -1, 0, 1, 2. First I set up an input-output table

y = 2x - 5
x (input) y (output)
-1
0
1
2

To find the output values substitute the input values (x values) into the expression. For example

if x = -1 then y = 2 x (-1) - 5 = -2 -5 = -7 and
if x = 0 then y = 2 x (0) - 5 = 0 - 5 = -5

Continuing I get

y = 2x - 5
x (input) y (output)
-1 -7
0 -5
1 -3
2 -1

The range of the function is the set of output values and hence

for the function y = 2x - 5 and domain -1, 0, 1, 2 the range is -7, -5, -3, -1.
