Question from Jeremy, a student: What is the next number in the following sequence? 4,18,48,100, __ |
Jeremy, we have two responses for you:
Hi Jeremy,
The pattern is revealed when each term is written as the product of two other numbers:
4 = 1×22, 18 = 2×32, 48 = 3×42, 100 = 4×52, ...
So I believe the next number would be 180 or 5×62.

Take a look at these two number sequences and their product:
sequence 1: 1 2 3 4 ... n sequence 2:
22 32 42 52 ... (n+1)2 Product of the above: 4 18 48 100 ... n(n+1)2
