Question from joyce, a student:

In flying upward for 1260 yards along a straight inclined path airplane rises 156 yards. Find the climbing angle ( the angle of inclination from the horizontal) Thank you in advance

Hi Joyce.

Here's a sketch which draws a right triangle that is our geometric object of interest:

So you want an angle in a right triangle and you know the lengths of the opposite side and the hypotenuse of the triangle. What trigonometric function have you studied that has an angle, the opposite side and the hypotenuse?

Hope this helps,
Stephen La Rocque.
