Question from Nick, a student:

For a regular square pyramid with base perimeter 40 and slant height 50, what is the lateral and surface areas?

Nick,

If the base is a square and you know the perimeter, what is the "base length" of each triangular side?

If the slant height is 50, what is the "height" of the triangle (taken two-dimensionally)?

The area of a triangle is half the base times the height. So what is the surface area of this pyramid?
