how do you convert decimal numbers to a given base
for example 2,875 to base five?

Hi Shelley.

The easiest way I know of is to divide by fives and write in the remainder.

For example, 3187 in base ten (decimal):

3187/5 = 637 remainder 2 (so write a 2 down).
637/5 = 127 remainder 2
127/5 = 25 remainder 2
25/5 = 5 remainder 0
5/5 = 0 remainder 1
stop here, you have no dividend left.

So in base 5, you have 10222.
