Larry started work at 7:45 am and left at 9:00 pm. How much did Larry earn?

Solution:

Larry started at 7:45 and worked for 8 hours at $12.00 per hour. 7:45 + 8 = 15:45 which is 3:45 pm so in the 8 hours from 7:45 am to 3:45 pm Larry made 8 ×$12.00 = $96.00. From 3:45 pm to 9:00 pm is 5 1/4 hours so in that time Larry made 5.25 × (1.25 ×$12.00) = 5.25 × $15.00 =$78.75

Thus in total Larry earned $96.00 +$78.75 = \$174.75.
