Question from Barbara, a student:

There 100 cars in lot A and 20 in lot B, after the attendant moved 20 cars from lot A into lot B. what was the ratio number of cars in A to the number of cars in lot B?

Thank you

Hi Barbara,

After the attendant moved 20 cars there werre 80 cars in lot A and 40 cars in lot B. Hence the ratio of the number of cars in lot A to the number of cars in lot B is 80:40. We usually write ratios in lowest form as we do fractions so I would say that the ratio of the number of cars in lot A to the number of cars in lot B is 2:1.
