Question from chantal, a student:

if a ocean/lake/river is 250meters from where you are, how long would it take to get to shore? how many meters/kilometers/millimeters would that be?

Hi Chantal,

There is a useful page on metric prefixes on Wikipedia. It says that 1 millimetre = 1/000 of a metre so 1 metre is 1000 millimetres. Hence 250 metres is 250 × 1000 = 250 000 milimetres.

How many kilometres is that?
