Hi Darlene, I expect that it depends on what part of the city you are in. I used Google Maps to look at downtown Birmingham and in some areas the blocks are longer along the avenues than along the streets. There is a scale on these maps so I suggest that use Google Maps to look at the part of Birmingham that interests you and then use the scale to determine the number of blocks in a mile.
